This tea comes to you from the Dimbula tea plantation region of the central highlands of Sri Lanka. This is a unblended, single estate tea from a selected tea garden, manufactured to our specifications.
A fully oxidised black tea, macerated to ensure it’s small leaf size . A superb balance of colour and vitality to awaken you in the morning. This tea infuses to produce a fine golden-orange hue. Balanced to quaff all day, the small leaf produces an excellent rounded intenseness, with hints of cypress and jasmine. Takes milk well.
Plantations in the Dimbula district are situated at an elevation of 4000ft (1250mt) and has its unique flavour. We evaluate teas from this region during ‘quality season’ from January to late March and connect with the best teas garden of the season to manufacture this tea.
This Tea is from Norwood estate situated in the ‘golden valley’ of Bogowanthalawa in the Dimbula district. Norwood estate has an extent of 381 hectares that raise from 3,875 feet at its lowest point to 5,167 feet at the highest point. The plantation has a population of 5,500 of which 1,068 are employed by the planation, and 1,264 worker houses provided. There are four government schools within the plantation.
Originally opened as a coffee planation during the coffee boom in early 1800 and converted to tea with the destruction of the coffee industry. Tea was initially experimented in the 1840s by the then owners Maurice and Gabriel De Worm, but was abandoned due to high cost.
